This website is an archive documenting more than three decades of music production and recordings of Javanese and Balinese gamelan released under the Yantra label. Quality of performances and recorded sound is outstanding throughout and musical gems may be easily encountered. While maintaining a strong focus on traditional musical forms and repertoire, Yantra has also explored combinations of gamelan and Western classical music (Musica Coniuncta project). Here you can discover Yantra’s published albums: 25 were originally released on CD between 2001 and 2011, while more than 60 and counting have been made available on the main digital platforms since 2011.
The albums are organised into the following COLLECTIONS: Classical of Java, Classical of Bali, Other Gamelan, and Somewhat Related.
All albums are accompanied by extensive booklet notes, many of which have been written by Indonesian and Western music experts. For physical releases, reviews published in international magazines and journals are also included.
There is also a section featuring links to videos on YouTube and Vimeo, including musical themes and performances specifically produced for these media.
